The party secured control of Congress and a Shutdown began on Monday.

On Monday, Democrats secured majorities in the house of Representatives and the senate in the 2026 midterm elections. The victories gave the party full control of Congress for the first time in the current cycle. A partisan government Shutdown started the same day as the newly empowered chamber faced a funding stalemate.

The House majority was confirmed on Sunday, 15 November, when vote tallies showed the Democratic Party holding more seats than any other group. The result gave Democrats a clear majority in the 435-member chamber.
