Extended posted modest valuation as other platforms missed targets
Metamask stayed under $2 billion while Opensea failed to reach $500 million on day one.
A wave of newly launched crypto platforms missed their initial fully-diluted valuation goals on their first day of trading. Metamask, Puffpaw, Opensea and Extended were among the projects monitored. Only Extended recorded a modest valuation, while the others fell well short of their benchmarks.
Metamask launched with expectations of a valuation exceeding $2 billion. The data from its first day showed the figure stayed below that level. The shortfall placed it among the underperformers.
One day after launch the valuation did not reach that threshold.
Opensea's launch carried a target of more than $500 million in fully-diluted value. The platform's valuation on the first day remained under that mark. It therefore joined the cohort of projects that missed their stated goals.
Extended's valuation on day one stayed below $800 million. Despite the lower figure, it was the only platform to register a discernible fully-diluted valuation. The modest result contrasted with the higher targets set for its peers.
Analysis
The failure of most new platforms to achieve their advertised fully-diluted valuations suggests that investor appetite for high-priced launches was limited at the start of the year. As a result, the lofty targets set by Metamask, Puffpaw and Opensea proved unattainable on day one.
However, the modest figure also signals that capital inflows remain restrained for new projects.
The mixed results create uncertainty for future token launches, as the gap between announced targets and realized valuations may prompt issuers to revise their pricing strategies. Investors could scrutinize launch metrics more closely before committing funds.
